Description
The School of Healthcare Business and Technology seeks an adjunct faculty member to develop and deliver high quality learning experiences and education for students in the Health Information Management & Technology program. The selected candidate will have responsibilities developing and teaching classroom courses to undergraduate students. Subject matters may include ICD and CPT coding, finance and revenue cycle, and health data compliance.
- Develops a course outline, instructional materials, and assessments for assigned courses for approval by program director and/or Dean
- Delivers didactic, laboratory and/or experiential instruction via multiple formats (in-person, online, or in a ‘blended' format) in the Health Information Management & Technology program.
- Provides students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the School, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines and evaluation criteria.
- Provides engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered.
- Uses the University's learning management system to post syllabus, assignments and other materials and to communicate with students
- Advises and assists students through office hours or scheduled appointments, by videoconference, phone or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms
- Provides service including student mentoring, ongoing course development, and assessment
- Ensure course content aligns with current industry standards, accreditation requirements, and program learning outcomes.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor
Requirements
Required:
- Master's in Health Information Management or a closely related field
- Minimum of 3 years of work experience in healthcare coding using ICD-10-CM and CPT
- Commitment to undergraduate, graduate and/or professional education and student success
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Must be able to work independently and effectively interact with a wide array of parties at all levels (students, faculty, administration/staff, alumni, and external constituents, including healthcare industry professionals)
- Strong understanding of healthcare information management principles and coding standards
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching experience at the undergraduate level
- Current RHIA or RHIT credential or Certified Professional Coder certification
- Familiarity with CAHIIM accreditation standards
