Description
DescriptionThe School of Education invites applications for Clinical Supervisor positions within the Office of Teacher Education. These are a non-tenure track, term appointments with particular emphasis on instruction and clinical supervision of online and/or field experiences for undergraduate students focused on earning a Professional Educator License.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. Part-Time Faculty, variable/unknown FTE (at time of posting) Actual salary for part-time appointments will be prorated based on the percentage FTE of the appointment
Examples of Duties
- Supervise undergraduate clinical experiences in approved public schools.
- Conduct orientation sessions before teacher candidates enter the PK-12 classroom.
- Observe and evaluate teacher candidates as they teach lessons at their clinical sites and/or virtually.
- Conference with teacher candidates after each lesson observation and provide them with written comments on the lesson presented.
- Evaluate teacher candidates' professional dispositions on an ongoing basis, record on evaluation form, and submit any concerns on the Unit Dispositions form as appropriate.
- Check-in with students and cooperating teachers periodically about candidate progress in person and/or virtually.
- Complete appropriate evaluation forms for clinical experiences.
- Assist the Coordinator of the Office of Teacher Education in identifying and confirming clinical placements in approved public schools maintaining formal agreements with SIU Carbondale.
- Identify possible cooperating teachers and classrooms for future placements.
- Attend monthly clinical supervision meeting and/or virtually.
- Serve as a liaison between SIU Carbondale and the public schools in the assigned region.
- Submit appropriate assessments for teacher candidates in clinical placements.
- Attend and support seminars organized by the Office of Teacher Education.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in a teaching licensure area, Applicants for the Assistant Lecturer rank must have completed a master's degree in a licensure area by date of hire. For those holding a doctoral degree, the appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice.
- A minimum of three years of successful teaching or education related experience at the early childhood, elementary, middle school and/or secondary level. This may or may not include experiences teaching Music, Special Education, Art, or Agricultural Education.
- Experience in the use of rubrics to evaluate student or teacher candidates' performance
- Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education, teaching excellence, and professional service
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional involvement with several different grade levels and curricular areas
- Experience in mentoring or coaching teacher candidates or practicing teachers
- Experience in instructional supervision or field-based clinical supervision
