Job Description Summary
Provide confidential, evidence based, trauma-informed, high quality, timely, direct medical care that is respectful to all individuals. With a strong commitment and respect for diversity, this position supports our students in achieving optimum personal and academic success, as well as providing leadership, consultation, guidance, and direction for the Health Center staff and other campus entities in the absence of the Health Center Director and direct oversight of the Health Center medical administrative and immunization compliance staff.Essential Duties:
General Nurse Practitioner Duties:
Provide direct clinical care, treatment recommendations, prescriptions, and thorough, timely documentation according to practice guidelines and while adhering to evidence-based, trauma-informed practices.
Triage patients with acute urgent medical situations promptly and refer as needed for appropriate emergencies or follow-up care.
Provide close follow-up on all patients, ensuring ethical, confidentiality and risk management guidelines are followed in encounters with patients and/or their families.
Consult with and notify the Director and Nurse Practitioner colleagues appropriately.
Refer to outside medical and mental health specialists as appropriate and follow-up as needed.
Maintain clear and respectful communication with patients, recognizing and supporting differences while providing culturally competent health care.
Collaborate respectfully with other key offices on campus, including but not limited to the Counseling Center, BentleyPlus, University Police, Residential Center, and the Dean's Office when appropriate and indicated. Notify the Director of any significant medical, psychological or high-risk concerns.
Ensure clinicial skills and medical knowledge are maintained with up to date medical best practices and participate actively in regular clinical case conferences.
Administrative Duties:
Direct supervision of medical administrative staff, working to ensure a positive and therapeutic experience for students at the Health Center from initial contact through follow-ups and beyond.
Direct supervision of student health specialist and the immunization compliance program.
Serve as Health Center champion and leader for AAAHC accreditation maintenance. Subject matter expert of reaccreditation process and leading preparations for future surveys.
Conducts ongoing assessments to continuously improve patient care, develop new and innovative Health Center offerings, and ensure satisfactory student health outcomes.
Participate in the hiring process for new staff members, at times leading the initial interviews while ensuring alignment with Human resources, diversity, and EEO guidelines.
Oversee the nurse practitioner student precepting program within the Health Center so as to provide excellent educational opportunities while not interfering with clinical operations or patient care.
Serve as a member and/or chair of various Health Center and campus committees, which may include but are not limited to Governing Body, Infection Control, Quality Improvement, and Housing Accommodations.Serve as the Health Center's Safety Officer and/or Infection Prevention Designee per AAAHC guidelines and ensure follow-up and documentation of any potential safety or adverse outcome incidents.
Represent the Health Center throughout campus through participation in campus events, as required.
Collaborate with diverse departments and student organizations to design and implement health and wellbeing initiatives for students.
Participate in significant campus events, including orientation sessions, residence life training, and other presentations or programs.
Assist the Director with administrative tasks as needed.
Assume duties of the Health Center Director in the Director's absence.
As needed, work independently to solve problems, look for opportunities to assume responsibility, take thoughtful risks, and effectively act on new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.
Anticipate and effectively manage change and work to foster an attitude of flexibility, teamwork and optimism in the Health Center.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree from college or university from a Nurse Practitioner program plus 5 years of strong clinical experience and decision making in College Health, Internal Medicine, Primary Care, or Urgent Care.
Strong interpersonal skills and experience with adolescent/young adult patient population.
Proficiency with electronic medical records, Microsoft Office Suite, and computerized scheduling/immunization tracking
Active license through the Mass Board of Registration in Nursing as a Massachusetts Advanced Practice Nurse with Independent Practice Authority (or ability to obtain licensure).
Current National Board Certification as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner.
Ability to obtain CPR/AED certification.
Active DEA and Mass Controlled Substance certification with MA Independent Prescriptive Authority (or ability to obtain licensure).
Work Environment
Prolonged periods of sitting, with intermittent walking and standing in an office setting.
Regular use of computers, printers, scanners, and other standard office equipment.
Occasional need to respond rapidly in emergencies, such as running to assist a student or client.
Routine use of clinical tools such as microscopes, vaginal speculums, stethoscopes, forceps, and tweezers.
Regular handling of bandages, dressings, otoscopes, splints, crutches, ophthalmoscopes, vacutainer tubes, needles, syringes, and medication vials.
Familiarity with these tools is required to support both clinical functions and evaluations.
Availability beyond standard business hours for campus events and meetings, including evenings and weekends.
Occasional travel to attend student events, off-campus seminars, meetings, and conferences.
Daily exposure to communicable diseases through direct patient contact and handling of biological specimens (e.g., blood, urine, vomitus).
Strict adherence to infection control protocols and the use of personal protective equipment is mandatory.

The grade range is based on market data and the scope of responsibilities. Final pay will depend on your experience, education, and other relevant qualifications
Salary Grade Range:
$105,359$177,253 per year.
