Description
DescriptionTULANE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW seeks to hire full-time Clinical Assistant or Associate Professors of Law in its Domestic Violence Clinic (focusing on civil representation for survivors of gender-based violence), and the Women's Prison Project (focusing on criminal defense for survivors of gender-based violence). Run by full-time faculty, Tulane's clinical programs are among the most robust experiential learning programs in the nation and exemplify the Law School's strong culture of public service. Through our 7 clinics, Tulane law students learn essential lawyering skills and provide free, exemplary legal advocacy to clients under Louisiana's student practice rule. Students enroll for a full academic year.
The Domestic Violence Clinic (DVC) is one of the only clinical programs in the nation that integrates a robust civil litigation docket with a criminal defense practice for survivors of gender-based violence. The Assistant or Associate Clinical professor hired for civil litigation will supervise law students representing survivors in contested or complex cases related to protective orders, child custody, and support, and address other civil needs related to housing, employment, or income security. Assistant or Associate Clinical Professors in the DVC work with a team of faculty and staff.
Launched in 2019, Tulane's Women's Prison Project (WPP) is jointly situated within its Domestic Violence and Criminal Justice Clinics and has been nationally recognized for its groundbreaking work on behalf of incarcerated survivors. WPP faculty and students represent survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, or trafficking who are serving or facing life or long sentences for crimes with a nexus to their abuse, including self-defense and coercion cases. The Assistant or Associate Clinical Professor hired in the WPP will supervise law students representing survivors at various stages of criminal proceedings, including pre-trial practice, trial, appeal, post-conviction, federal habeas corpus, pardon, and parole. Assistant or Associate Clinical Professors in the WPP work with a team of directors, staff, faculty, and students in both the Domestic Violence and Criminal Justice Clinics.
