Description
The Office of Student Life is focused on building a strong foundation to ensure every student's Indiana University (IU) experience is positive, safe, healthy, and meaningful. The Office of Student Life staff aim to help students navigate their time at IU, providing the tools they need to be successful. Students are our priority, and their health, safety, and overall well-being are our core mission.Founded in 1995, the IU 21st Century Scholars Program (IUB21CS), is the oldest and largest student support services department in the State of Indiana. The IUB21CS provides financial and academic resources to support, retain, and graduate 1000's of 21st Century Scholars recipients at Indiana University Bloomington. As an IU 21st Century Scholar, access is granted to the academic guidance, mentoring, and advocacy support needed to achieve full potential at IUB. The IUB21CS is ranked number 1 in Indiana for the number of students receiving the "1st-dollar, full-tuition, need-based Indiana 21st Century Scholarship" at any 4-year public or private university.
Our student success coaches goals are in line with the Student Success and Opportunity goals in IU 2023.
Job Summary
We are seeking dedicated student success coaches focused on our 21st Century Scholars.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Serves as a consistent contact for 21st Century Scholars throughout their educational experience, providing a reliable means of support and clear pathway to seek out assistance.
- Supports university recruitment, admission, retention, and graduation efforts by partnering with campus units to work with 21st Century Scholars from when they are identified as a prospect in the admission cycle through and beyond graduation according to programmatic needs.
- Provides direct, proactive, and early intervention to 21st Century Scholars by leveraging systems and data to identify and intervene with potential issues before they occur, and to celebrate their successes.
- Educates students on 21st Century Scholar eligibility requirements, monitors their progress, and maintains confidential student records.
- Helps 21st Century Scholars navigate the institution and its various systems by liaising with faculty and staff on advising, peer mentoring, tutoring, career counseling, campus activities, internships, research opportunities, 1st-year seminars, financial aid counseling, personal counseling, student employment options, housing scholarships, and various support programs.
- Coaches 21st Century Scholars in developing organizational and time-management skills; understanding their own learning style; developing study skills; discovering their strengths, interests, and motivations; establishing mechanisms to enhance social involvement, and creating action plans to achieve academic, career, and personal goals.
- Focuses on understanding and developing best practices in service and experience excellence to enhance their approach with student success coaching.
- Provides coordination for financial literacy and covenant use workshops.
- Develops and implements programs and initiatives that offer support for 21st Century Scholars in crisis, facing adversity, or challenges.
- Interfaces directly with students by attending student programming events, advising student organization leaders, meeting 1-on-1 to discuss support needs, and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student services initiatives and objectives.
- Places emphasis on confidentiality of student concerns, university policy compliance, and a culture of care within all direct student interactions.
- Collaborates with staff within the department and other departments, as well as academic and campus leaders, on shared student support goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor student programs and initiatives.
- Projects outcomes for support services offered at the program, department/division, or campus level.
- Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student support initiatives against projected outcomes.
- May prepare reports on impact to students and budget and may present to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.
- Plans and coordinates communications for student support initiatives to ensure student participation, inclusion, and engagement.
- May serve on committees and perform student support research across the field of higher education and at peer institutions to identify and recommend best practices.
Qualifications

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in education, public affairs, public health, counseling, social work, business, or related field
- Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field
Preferred
- Experience in student services, higher education, social work, counseling, law, or related field

- Valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary
$44,766.00 per year
Work Hours
Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Varies with established programming (evening or weekend programming).
