DescriptionSalary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
Note: There are multiple positions available.
The Office of Innovation and Economic Development is SIU's primary outreach arm to the region, offering business development, workforce innovation, economic development, and community engagement services and activities throughout Southern Illinois.
Examples of Duties
This position provides direct support to the leadership of the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) Incubator promoting clean energy businesses in IL grant-funded programs within the SIU Office of Innovation and Economic Development (OIED) department in conjunction with and under the direction of leadership of the CEJA Incubator.
Pending ongoing grant funding, duties for this position include:
1.) Advise all equity eligible program businesses on construction, RFP, bids, and clean energy needs, as required,
2.) Cultivate a network of clean energy experts and business owners to participate in engagement meetings,
3.) Coordinate meetings with clean energy experts to discuss project requirements and scope of work with incoming project participants/equity eligible businesses;
4.) Assist participants achieve business goals and connect to specific clean energy construction projects;
5.) Engage in vendor subcontracting and qualify installer opportunities;
6.) Review business plans and cost estimates based on experience and expertise to advise participants/eligible businesses on viability of proposed projects;
7.) Advise participants/eligible businesses on monitoring estimates and job costs of work in progress; including special materials and equipment orders;
8.) Provide instruction and direction to participants/eligible businesses regarding communication with key business stakeholders and customers;
9.) Assist with creation, development, and review of curriculum for participants/eligible businesses to ensure compliance with Department of Labor and other guidelines;
10.) Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Any one or combination totaling three (3) years (36 months) from the following categories:
- work experience in construction management, building project management or a closely related field.
- college coursework in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- Associate Degree (60 semester hours) equals one (1) year (12 months)
- 90-semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
- Bachelor's Degree or higher (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
- One (1) year (12 months) of building construction management and/or building project management experience.
Supplemental Information
Illinois Residency Requirement: Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position.

About Civil Service Examination/Testing: The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of application materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, your application will move forward for examination/testing in which you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. This score will be emailed to the email address noted on your application. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.
