We value innovation, creativity, integrity, and a shared commitment to the bright young people we serve.We are seeking a CTY Online Programs Math Instructor for the USVI Math Academy for Promising Scholars, will mainly be responsible for teaching elementary and middle school level online math courses (grades 4 - 8). This individual will be responsible for promptly replying to emails; providing detailed feedback on exams according to a rubric; arranging & holding live review sessions with students and actively checking in on all assigned students; helping to resolve any problems; collaborating with an on-site instructor.
Live instruction is required during designated periods during the school year in the morning hours (Atlantic Standard Time). Phone calls to students, parents and schools may be required. The CTY Online Programs Math Instructor is the student's main contact point and he or she ensures that every student has an outstanding learning experience with CTY.
While class times have not yet been finalized, candidates will likely need to be available to teach from 7-10 AM Eastern each weekday for this position.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Monitor student progress and assist students in accomplishing established learning objectives.
- Interact independently with students using distance education technologies, primarily Moodle, Zoom, and e-mail.
- Provide timely feedback to students and their parents on coursework and progress, according to a rubric.
- Communicate with students, parents, IT, program administrators, school personnel, and supervisor to resolve any course related issues.
- Manage student behavior and discipline in the online classroom environment.
- Coordinate with an on-site instructor in students' school to aide in their progression.
- Promptly replying to emails, providing detailed feedback on exams according to a rubric.
- Work closely with program manager and assistant program manager on course related issues and work as a team member to provide support to other CTY Online instructors and USVI on-site instructors.
- Submit hours worked via established system according to schedule provided by CTY.
- Review and provide curriculum materials for a course for academically talented students, including objectives, lecture scripts, assignments, activities/exercises, quizzes, exams, solution files, rubrics, and other course related materials.
- Additional duties include assisting with the development of course related materials; updating and developing curriculum; participating in new course development; working closely with program managers on course related issues; assisting with the training of other instructors; and working as a team member to provide support to other CTY Online instructors, as necessary.

Additional Requirements:
- Ability to access and transmit information using a computer and do so for extended periods of time.

- Communicate regularly via email, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and telephone with internal and external audiences and must be able to exchange accurate and timely information in these settings.
- Work varied hours including weekends and evenings as determined with supervisor.
Additional Information:
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the US, or live in an area in which JHU has an authorized business entity (very limited locations).
- While class times have not yet been finalized, candidates will likely need to be available to teach from 7-10 AM Eastern each weekday for this position.
- All employees participating in or serving children in University programs must participate in mandatory Child Abuse Prevention online training on the appropriate conduct around children, protecting children from abuse and neglect, and reporting of known or suspected child abuse and neglect.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university in Mathematics or closely related field, is required
- Two years of closely related experience is required, such as instruction or tutoring of students in 3rd grade through middle school, either through online or classroom instruction.
- Additional (graduate) education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education or closely related field is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Two years of closely related experience is required, such as instruction or tutoring of students in 3rd grade through middle school, either through online or classroom instruction.
- Familiarity with online education technologies are a plus, such as Moodle, Teams, and Zoom.
