Description
Job Summary:The Musical Accompanist Temporary is responsible for accompanying Modern Dance or Contemporary Technique classes. Auditions required in various dance class settings as part of the interview/hiring process.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
1. Accompanies Modern Dance/Contemporary Technique classes as assigned and as appropriate to instrumentation needs/skills.
2. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
• High School Diploma.
Preferred Education & Experience:
• Bachelor's Degree
• One or more years of experience as a dance musician/accompanist for ballet and/or modern dance/contemporary classes in a studio/training setting
Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
• Strong musical skills as a pianist and/or percussionist; audition in one or more technique classes is required prior to hire
Preferred Licensure, Certification, and/or Specialized Training:
• None
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Knowledge and skills specific to dance accompanying including an array of musical repertoire, improvisation, arrangement of music as needed for dance phrasing, ability to shift tempi, quality, and character of music choices quickly.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with dance instructors in the dance class setting is essential.
• Ability to maintain tempi and respond to changes in meter or tempi quickly.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.
Work Environment:
• Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
• This role is an on campus, in-person position.
