Position Description:
The Data Analyst III in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics will serve as a Data Analyst for the Kentucky IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (KY INBRE).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Processing high-throughput data using the Bioinformatics Core pipelines on the KY INBRE Computer Cluster.
- Responsible for the analysis of large datasets using established and new bioinformatics tools and pipelines, statistical and machine-learning approaches and data visualization.
- Participate in collaborative research and provide regular progress reports.
- Participate in multiple research projects led by basic, translational, and clinical scientific teams and provide support for project-specific downstream analyses.
- Develop queries against online databases (TCGA, cBioPortal, PedcBioportal, KidsFirst, KEGG) web APIs to gather data for client projects.
- Handle bioinformatics-related technical challenges with new and creative thinking.
- Assist with support and training of new team members.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in bioinformatics, genetics, molecular biology, or related field. Two or more years of hands-on experience with "-omics" level datasets and 5 or more years of research experience in molecular biology lab setting. 5+ years of biological and data science experience.
- Applied experience with NGS, proteomics or clinical data.
- Working knowledge of programming languages used in data science (e.g. Perl, R, Python, SAS, SQL, Matlab).
- Background in molecular biology
- Familiarity with cBioportal, TCGA, GTEx, ClinVar, or other biomedical databases
- Previous experience with NGS data.

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
