Description
The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is currently accepting applications for full-time doctoral-level faculty researchers to work within the Human Engineering Research Laboratories (HERL). A PhD, MD, DO, or equivalent degree in Engineering, Sciences, or Medicine is required. Academic rank and compensation package will be commensurate with experience and accomplishment.Responsibilities will include:
- Secure peer-reviewed funding and collaborate in the conduct of research and development.
- Create, design, and participate in research protocols, data collection, and analysis.
- Dissemination of research and development through peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
- Advise and mentor students and post-docs who are working on research and development projects.
- Serve on HERL and other committees as approved by the HERL Director.
- Engage in scholarly activity and participate as part of an interdisciplinary team to conduct and support an externally funded, peer-reviewed research and development program.
- Participate in professional development activities and demonstrate leadership or leadership potential within the profession.
- Represent HERL through service on university-level committees and in the broader community.
Qualifications: Candidates should have the skills to be an effective faculty member. Should be an effective mentor and leader with strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with all stakeholder groups, including students, research participants, faculty, staff, and administration, as well as professional, governmental, and community partners.
The ideal candidate will:
- Possess a PhD in Rehabilitation Science, Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
- Possess a minimum of five years of relevant teaching/mentoring, participatory research & development, and/or administrative experience in rehabilitation, assistive technology, or a closely related field of research.
- Involvement in rehabilitation science, rehabilitation engineering, and/or assistive technology-related organizations.
- Possess organizational and teaching/mentoring skills and the ability to be a highly effective mentor to students, postdocs, and interns, and to work collaboratively in teams, including faculty/staff.
In addition to the qualifications above:
- Appointment at the Associate Professor level generally requires a minimum of 5 years of experience and demonstrated scholarly productivity in research & development, teaching/mentoring, and/or administrative leadership and service.
- Appointment at the Full Professor level generally requires a minimum of 10 years of experience and the ability to demonstrate the attainment of superior stature and national/international reputation in their field of knowledge.
Evidence of scholarly productivity is required for appointment in the tenure stream, including teaching and academic service, publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals, and a history of successful funding acquisition. The primary requirement for conferral of tenure is an outstanding record of sustained independent scholarship across research and development, teaching/mentoring, and service.
