Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma/GED, and relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Pre-employment physical exam required. Valid driver's license required and must be insurable by the University's insurance carrier. Grade 1 (Hourly)
Position Description:
Daily duties include light to heavy lifting, collecting and hauling trash, and maintaining recycling, garbage receptacles, and dumpsters to ensure a clean appearance. Additional responsibilities include loading and unloading trucks, setting up displays for special events, assisting with construction and repairs, and hauling debris from renovation sites. Employees operate vehicles and heavy equipment, perform safety checks, maintain tools, and complete paperwork and trainings on schedule. The role requires working effectively both independently and with a team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lift and move equipment, furniture, and miscellaneous items between various locations, including up and down stairs, using furniture dollies and other resources appropriate for completing the job
- Lift up to 50 pounds on a consistent basis and move/lift items over 50 pounds with material handling devices
- Load and unload trucks
- Collect and remove trash and clean parking garages and lots
- Set up and assemble displays for special events in various departments
- Assist other trades with maintenance, construction, and repair, including but not limited to shoveling, pouring concrete, moving heavy items, changing filters, and other related duties.
- Lift and haul away debris, drywall, and lumber from renovation sites
- Properly maintain and store tools, equipment, and vehicles
- Perform safety checks on equipment and vehicles for safe operations according to the standard of use and report any damage for repairs or replacement
- Effectively work alone and with a team
- Operate a box truck, forklift, and other heavy equipment, as needed
- Remove snow and ice from university walkways, roads, ramps, parking areas, and shuttle bus stops by utilizing the appropriate snow removal equipment and spreading salt in those areas
- Complete all required paperwork in a timely manner. Attend required trainings and meetings.
- Contribute to the overall success of the assigned department by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor(s)
- Must be willing and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including but not limited to snow, rain, heat, and cold
This position is a required personnel position and requires the employee's physical presence at the workplace. Additionally, the employee is required to report to (or remain at) work to assist with University emergencies during closures.
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
