Location: Albany, NY Category: Faculty Posted On: Fri Nov 7 2025 Job Description:The University at Albany invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science to begin Fall 2026. This non-tenure track position focuses on undergraduate instruction, curriculum development, and student mentorship, with no research obligations. Positions are three-year, renewable, 10-month appointments, with the opportunity for additional teaching during summer terms.
The successful candidate will contribute to the growth of a dynamic computer science program that emphasizes hands-on experience, interdisciplinary learning, and career readiness. Lecturers are integral to the Department's teaching mission, which includes a dual degree program with Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications (CQUPT) in the beautiful Yangtze River Valley of China. Successful applicants will teach both at UAlbany and, every other semester, at CQUPT with additional compensation and all expenses covered. Courses at CQUPT will be from 6 to 12 weeks and will primarily be taught in person. All instruction in China will be in English and will include substantial TA support. A variety of courses must be covered including, but not limited to, introductory programming, data structures, software engineering, discrete mathematics, computer science systems, databases, and other core required CS courses. Professors of Practice and Lecturers are expected to commit to excellence in teaching and will need to constantly review and improve the pedagogy they use to engage and support student learning.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Teach a variety of undergraduate courses in computer science
- Develop and maintain instructional materials, including syllabi, assignments, and lab manuals
- Provide academic advising and career mentoring to undergraduate students
- Support continuous improvement efforts for curriculum and instruction (e.g., ABET assessment)
- Participate in department meetings, and service activities such as student recruitment, and outreach activities
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to promote an inclusive and student-centered learning environment
Functional and Supervisory Relationships:
- Reports to Dept Chair
- Supervises the following positions: none
- May supervise as assigned: Graduate and undergraduate students working as teaching assistants, lab supervisors, and graders
Job Requirements:
- Responsibilities are predominantly teaching with a standard load of 3 courses in the Spring semester and 3 in the Fall semester, combined with university and department-level service.
- Alternate semesters will be spent at ChongQing University of Posts and Telecommunications as part of our dual degree program.

Minimum Qualifications:
- MS degree in Computer Science or related area from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
- Demonstrated teaching experience or strong potential for effective teaching at the undergraduate level
- Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community
- Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD degree in Computer Science or related field from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
- Experience teaching lab-based or project-based courses
- Knowledge of ABET accreditation and assessment processes
- Experience in academic advising or student mentoring
- Prior experience in education abroad, especially in China is a plus
Working Environment:
- This position will require teaching in the program core both at UAlbany and, every second semester, at Chongqing with additional compensation and all expenses covered. Courses at Chongqing will be from 6 to 12 weeks.
- Faculty will be provided with personal office space
- Teaching will be scheduled across the different campus teaching facilities
- Class schedules may include courses offered after 5 pm on weekdays
- Online courses may be scheduled at the discretion of the department chair
- This position will require occasional evening and weekend work to support events and community activities
- Travel within New York State and beyond may be necessary
