Description
The Indiana University (IU) Southeast Library empowers and serves its communities by facilitating lifelong learning through physical and digital collections, services, and programs, and is an active partner in the teaching, learning, and research missions of the campus.Job Summary
The Online Student Outreach Specialist will support initiatives aimed at enhancing library engagement and access for online students. This role is ideal for a current Master in Library and Information Sciences (MLIS) student interested in academic librarianship, instructional design, and equity in information access.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Investigates best practices in the literature on library outreach to online and distance learners
- Reviews existing research and recommendations for possible implementation
- Identifies institutional policies and procedures that may hinder access to library resources for online students
- Explores and evaluates existing tools and platforms that facilitate seamless access to library services
- Creates engaging digital outreach materials (e.g., email campaigns, web content, infographics) tailored to online students
- Develops instructional materials (e.g., tutorials, guides, videos) to support online student use of library resources
- Summarizes findings and recommendations in a final report or presentation
- Conducts research, develops outreach materials, and evaluates institutional policies and tools to improve the online student experience with library services
- Meets weekly with the Director of Library Services at Indiana University Southeast to discuss progress and current research
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree
- Currently enrolled in an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited MLIS program
Required
- Demonstrated interest in academic libraries, online learning, and user-centered design as demonstrated by coursework and/or work experience
- Experience with instructional design, graphic design tools, or web content creation
Required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
Working Conditions / Demands
Reliable internet access and a personal computer are required for remote work and participation in virtual meetings.
Additional Information
This position begins the week of January 5, 2026.
This is a limited term position, initially funded for the Spring 2026 semester. It may be renewed or extended based upon funding availability and business needs.
Work Location
This is a fully remote position. However, this is subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
Advertised Salary
$20.00 per hour
Work Hours
10-15 hours per week
