Description
The IU Center for Rural Engagement (CRE) improves the lives of Hoosiers through collaborative initiatives that discover and deploy scalable and flexible solutions to common challenges facing rural communities. Working in full-spectrum community innovation through research, community-engaged teaching, and student service, the Center builds vision, harnesses assets, and cultivates sustainable leadership structures within the communities with which it engages to ensure long-term successJob Summary
The Center for Rural Engagement graphic design intern will create visually appealing and professional designs for a variety of formats to help tell the story of rural Indiana and IU's collaboration with communities in the region. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to refine design skills, gain hands-on experience with content layout, and contribute to impactful projects that will be seen by a wide audience.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Develops and implements layouts for print materials such as brochures, flyers, and posters.
- Creates dynamic designs for digital formats including social media graphics and web content.
- Collaborates with team members to ensure designs align with organizational branding and goals.
- Prepares files for production, adhering to technical specifications.
- Revises and finalize layouts based on feedback to ensure quality and consistency.
- Opportunities to capture photography, create animations, or edit video content may also be available.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in progress or completed
Required
- Valid drivers license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University
Required
- Strong understanding of design principles including typography, color theory, and composition
- Experience with layout design software such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, or Canva
- Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Seeking to acquire knowledge in the area of specialty
- Experience with digital photography, videography, and project management systems
Working Conditions / Demands
This position may frequently require ascending or descending stairs, reaching, and lifting or moving items up to 20 pounds. It may also involve operating a vehicle. The essential functions of this role can be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
Work Location
Bloomington, Indiana
This position requires working in a provided desk space on campus and many include some in-state travel.
Advertised Salary
$15.00 per hour, eligible for a $0.50 raise for each academic semester ( Fall/Spring) as you continue with the CRE.
Work Hours
10-15 hours per week depending on the work available.
