Job Summary

The Center for Rural Engagement graphic design intern will create visually appealing and professional designs for a variety of formats to help tell the story of rural Indiana and IU's collaboration with communities in the region. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to refine design skills, gain hands-on experience with content layout, and contribute to impactful projects that will be seen by a wide audience.
Department-Specific Responsibilities

• Develops and implements layouts for print materials such as brochures, flyers, and posters.
• Creates dynamic designs for digital formats including social media graphics and web content.
• Collaborates with team members to ensure designs align with organizational branding and goals.
• Prepares files for production, adhering to technical specifications.
• Revises and finalize layouts based on feedback to ensure quality and consistency.
• Opportunities to capture photography, create animations, or edit video content may also be available.

Qualifications

EDUCATION
Required

• Bachelor's degree in progress or completed

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required

• Valid drivers license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University

SKILLS
Required

• Strong understanding of design principles including typography, color theory, and composition
• Experience with layout design software such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, or Canva
• Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
• Seeking to acquire knowledge in the area of specialty

Preferred

• Experience with digital photography, videography, and project management systems

Working Conditions / Demands

This position may frequently require ascending or descending stairs, reaching, and lifting or moving items up to 20 pounds. It may also involve operating a vehicle. The essential functions of this role can be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work Location

Bloomington, Indiana
This position requires working in a provided desk space on campus and many include some in-state travel.

Advertised Salary

$15.00 per hour, eligible for a $0.50 raise for each academic semester ( Fall/Spring) as you continue with the CRE.

Work Hours

10-15 hours per week depending on the work available.
