Job DescriptionLocation: On-site at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, Baltimore, Maryland
The University of Maryland School of Pharmacy is conducting an open search for a School Assistant Professor, non-tenure track, in the Department of Practice, Sciences and Health Outcomes Research. This position requires teaching, service to the school, campus and the profession, and scholarly activity.
The position is a full-time, 12-month appointment based at our Baltimore campus. In addition to teaching, service, and scholarly activity this position will support research and training in AI/ML including conducting research, curriculum development, mentoring students, and collaborating with colleagues.
The University of Maryland, Baltimore campus houses schools of Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing, Social Work, Law, and Dentistry. The University of Maryland enjoys an excellent established record of accomplishment of successful collaboration for interprofessional practice and research collaborations with the other professional schools on campus.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
This position is responsible to the Chair of the Department of Practice, Sciences, and Health Outcomes Research (P-SHOR). Teaching reporting responsibility is to the Chair of the Department through the Vice Chair for Academic Affairs and the Director of AI/ML Program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
EDUCATION
Develop and teach courses on AI/ML relevant to drug development or precision medicine management.
Mentor students interested in AI/ML research.
SCHOLARSHIP
Conduct original research on the application of advanced quantitative methods including AI/ML and statistical approaches to solving drug development and precision medicine problems.
Scholarly activity is required; publication and presentation of work is expected.
- Secure funding for research projects.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
- Scholarly activity which may be pursued either independently or in collaboration with other schools, departments, or campus faculty.
SERVICE TO THE UNIVERSITY, SCHOOL, AND PUBLIC
Participate in appropriate faculty activities (e.g., faculty assembly, department meetings, faculty committees), professional organizations, and other endeavors.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
An earned Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent degree with a strong focus on engineering and artificial intelligence in healthcare. Excellent communication skills are essential. Evidence of scholarship is preferred. Candidates should interact effectively with interdisciplinary collaborators and be eligible for appointments to the graduate faculty in order to teach and mentor graduate students.
Preferred experience related to teaching and/or creating master level curriculums.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
Professional conduct in all dealings with students, faculty, or administration.
Communications - Knowledge of communication and dissemination techniques and methods.
This includes alternative ways to inform via written, oral, and visual media.
Education - Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum design principles, evidence-based teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and knowledge of measurement and assessment.
Initiative - Willing and able to take on responsibilities and challenges.
Leadership - Willing and able to lead; take charge and offer opinions and direction.
Learning Strategies - Selecting and using instructional methods and procedures appropriate in the discipline family when learning or teaching new things.
Strong interpersonal abilities with excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty.
Monitoring - Monitoring/assessing curricula to make improvements or take corrective action.
Stress Tolerance - Ability to accept criticism and deal calmly and effectively with high stress situations.

School Assistant Professor: $120,000 - $140,000
Rank and salary will be commensurate with education, training and experience and includes a generous benefits package. The anticipated start date for this position is January, 2026.
