Description
DescriptionA post-doctoral scholar position is available immediately in the Sea Level Lab of Dr. Sönke Dangendorf to work on NSF and NASA funded projects related to the reconstruction and analysis of coastal mean sea-level changes with a particular focus on nonlinear vertical land motion and their contribution to coastal flooding. The position is located in the Department of River-Coastal Science and Engineering at Tulane University, which values diversity in all forms and is committed to fostering a supportive, inclusive, and welcoming work environment. Applications from candidates passionate about diversity, equity, and inclusion with overlapping scientific interests are encouraged to apply.
Possible projects include (1) assessments of vertical land motion based on multiple different observational and proxy records, (2) mapping reconstructions of coastal sea-level changes based on tide gauge and ancillary information, and (3) building Bayesian frameworks that properly take into account uncertainties of different observational and model networks. Applicants with a background in some of the followings are especially encouraged to apply: physical oceanography, coastal engineering, geodesy, geosciences, and sea-level science.
The earliest start date is January 3rd, 2024. The position would be for one year (contingent upon annual review at year 1) with the possibility of further extension. The starting salary is 65,000 $ full benefits.
The Department of River-Coastal Science and Engineering at Tulane is a diverse and welcoming community of scientists with excellent scholarship across a wide range of interdisciplinary topics. Tulane is a private, research one university and a member of the 63 prestigious Association of American Universities. Tulane is a collegial, collaborative, and stimulating environment for learning and research and is ranked among the top 40 universities by US News Report. New Orleans is a beautiful, vibrant, multicultural, and truly unique city in which to work and live.
