Position Summary
The position is responsible for managing several aspects of a forest pathology research laboratory, with duties including, among others, independently conducting research experiments, developing protocols, coordinating and managing the technical aspects of the laboratory, such as safety regulatory requirements and equipment performance, training and co-mentoring of students and technicians, and support with grant proposal writing and budget administration.

- Advanced knowledge of molecular biology (including genomics and bioinformatics) and microbiology techniques.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to analyze and interpret scientific data, and to summarize the results in the format of journal articles or comprehensive project reports.
- Ability to provide appropriate guidance and instruction to undergraduate and graduate students, and to national or international visiting scholars or scientists.

Research performance:
- Independently design and conduct experimental research in plant pathology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, or metabolomics of plants, pests, and pathogen systems, with minimal supervision. This includes, among others, identification or discovery, testing, and validation of proper protocols, as needed; data collection, analysis, and interpretation; writing of the results in the format of scientific papers or comprehensive project reports.
Lab management:
- Coordinate and supervise the use of laboratory equipment and resources utilized by graduate students, research faculty, and professional staff.
- Maintain reagent stocks and laboratory supplies, as well as ensure that the laboratory is cleaned and kept in an orderly manner.
- Maintain the fungal collection of the lab.
- Ensure all instrumentation and equipment are functioning properly and arrange equipment replacement, service, and/or repair when needed.
- Maintain chemical inventory, laboratory safety, SDS, and SOP manuals as required by the University.
- Oversee the safety regulatory requirements specific to the laboratory and ensure that the laboratory and all users are in compliance with those standards.
- Acquire and track research permits and required personnel training.
- Support/Supervision: Mentor/train lab personnel, graduate students, directly supervise undergraduate student technicians, and orient visiting scientists and other personnel as needed.
- Support design and execution of field sampling and/or laboratory/data analyses as needed.
Research coordination:
- Assist the PI with grant proposal writing, management of funds, and budgeting responsibilities, as well as other routine administrative tasks, such as identifying research priorities and timelines from multiple projects.
