The department houses core facilities that include a metabolic kitchen, a whole-room indirect calorimetry suite, and a full-service research analytical laboratory that are available for use in basic and clinical research. UAB's CCTS provides a fully staffed clinical research unit that is available for inpatient and outpatient studies requiring nursing care (e.g., euglycemic clamp, oral glucose tolerance test). Stable isotope preparation and analytical facilities are offered through the School of Medicine. An animal phenotyping core, supported by the NORC and the DRC , provides indirect calorimetry and body composition services.
