Description
The Hudson and Holland Scholars Program (HHSP) is a scholarship and academic support program for high-achieving students in and out of state within the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education. HHSP is the largest merit-based scholarship program at Indiana University (IU) with over 2,400 students currently enrolled.The program provides a scholarship as well as a variety of support services to address the holistic needs of student participants in the program. HHSP students are some of the best and brightest students at IU whose presence and contributions enrich the campus learning environment by living the HHSP motto: Scholarship, Uplift, Community, Creativity, Engagement, Empowerment, and Development (SUCCEED).
Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Innovatively develops, implements, and assesses retention programs and initiatives focused on holistic student development.
- Measures and evaluates effectiveness of retention initiatives for students in HHSP against projected outcomes; regularly prepares reports and presents to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.
- Identifies and develops support initiatives and activities for HHSP students facing obstacles, achieving milestones, and accomplishing objectives.
- Maintains a proactive and holistic advising caseload of HHSP Scholars on grade watch.
- Actively assists with and coaches HHSP students through the scholarship appeals process.
- Actively assists with the summer New Student Orientation Academic Advising caseload for HHSP Scholars.
- Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as student organization leaders, on shared retention goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor retention initiatives.
- Assists with HHSP functions including orientation, graduation, and events. Plans and coordinates communications for retention initiatives to ensure student participation and inclusion.
- Supervises the Graduate Assistant for programs, retention, and student support.
- Develops, designs, and maintains program objectives to support organizational goals in consultation with leadership.
- Develops communications and serves as liaison to program participants, collaborators in other units, community partners, and leadership members.
- Provides mechanisms, training, and advice on retention strategies, terminology, and team dynamics, to a variety of audiences.
- Recruits, trains, directs, schedules, and evaluates faculty and staff partners, students, and volunteers. Mentors, serves as a resource, and provides guidance to team staff members as needed.
- Serves on various committees and provides input on strategic direction for the department or unit.
- Arranges staff travel, accommodations, and research activities as necessary.
- Develops and distributes reports of enrollment, year-over-year retention, progress toward degree completion, and graduation for distribution to leaders in enrollment management and across various student services functions. Maintains historical reports for trend analysis and benchmarking.
- Serves on committees and works collaboratively with other student services staff to maintain an understanding of the full student life cycle and typical barriers to retention, degree completion, and graduation.
- Develops and implements retention programs, initiatives, and targeted communications to improve student enrollment and retention outcomes.
- Performs targeted outreach and interacts directly with at-risk students, connecting them with resources to navigate barriers to completion.
- Evaluates enrollment data to determine the effectiveness of current enrollment processes; liaises with and serves as a resource for academic departments, offices, programs, and schools across campus to develop and realize enrollment goals.
- Performs industry research and may make recommendations for process improvements in line with industry best practices.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in business, public policy, or related field
- Master's degree in higher education
Required
- 2 years in enrollment management, admissions, student services, student affairs, student development, academic advising, higher education, or related field

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary
$49,000 - $53,000 annually
