The Dolly & Homer Hand Law Library at Stetson University College of Law seeks energetic and service-oriented candidates to fill an entry-level Student Services Reference Librarian and Instructor of Law position. This librarian provides reference support to the faculty, staff, and students of the College of Law, as well as other community patrons. Serving as a member of the Law Library Reference Team, the Student Services Reference Librarian will also specifically support student programming, research services, and student journals at the College, as well as participate in teaching as an adjunct professor. In alignment with Stetson’s Strategic Priorities, the Student Services Reference Librarian will promote a people-centered, high-performing and relationship-rich culture of inclusive excellence. 

Stetson Law, Florida’s first law school, was founded in 1900. The College of Law has a national reputation for its advocacy program, ranked #1 in the nation, and its legal writing program, ranked #3 in the nation, by U.S. News and World Report. It also boasts renowned centers, institutes, and clinics in various fields, such as advocacy, elder law, higher education, biodiversity and the environment, legal communication, Caribbean law, and veterans law. A former resort hotel from the 1920s, the college campus has a laid back, yet vibrant atmosphere with nearly 900 students, over 40 tenure track faculty, 40 student organizations, and 4 academic journals. Key Responsibilities include:

• Providing professional reference, research, and instructional services to the law school community in-person and virtually
• Supervising the Law Library’s student employees
• Supporting student-run journals, as well as moot court and trial teams, including trainings, interlibrary loans, the creation of online guides, and other reference and research assistance as needed
• Along with the Law Library Reference Team, planning and participating in instruction and research programs for faculty, staff, and students, including guest lectures
• Creating, evaluating, and promoting innovative library services, resources, and programming, with an emphasis on student needs
• Participating in collection development decisions and assessment, including the development of student wellness resources
• Assisting with the creation and maintenance of online research guides and tutorials
• Regularly teaching Advanced Legal Research and specialized research courses as an adjunct professor

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• JD from an ABA-accredited law school
• MLS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution, or enrollment in such a program
• In-depth knowledge of legal sources and research in both electronic and print formats
• Strong customer service orientation
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Flexibility to work outside the normal assigned schedule when requested (Normal schedule is Monday-Friday, 10:30am-7pm)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in an academic law library
• Supervisory experience
• Teaching experience
