Description
Tenure-Track Faculty Position, Open Rank
The Ohio State University
Columbus, OH
Department:
Engineering | Computer Science and Engineering
Position Overview
The faculty will join the AI(X) Hub at Ohio State, established to drive innovation, provide resources, and foster the development of foundational and applied AI. The AI(X) Hub will be organized around several pillars: AI Foundations, Health, Engineering and Sciences, Agriculture, Trustworthy AI, and Cybersecurity. The Hub’s Faculty Hiring Initiative will elevate Ohio State’s national reputation specifically related to AI in addition to attracting top-tier academic talent and secure external funding.
This advertised position will dovetail with similar positions in the soon to-be-stood up AI in Health Pillar of the AI(X) Hub. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with Health Pillar (primary) and the AI Foundations Pillar (secondary). It is very likely that the research focus of the Health Pillar will include: (a) AI-Driven Therapeutics Discovery; (b) AI-Enabled Precision Medicine; (c) AI Implementation and Translation; (d) AI Education in Health and (e) Scalable and Robust AI Infrastructure for Health.
Further, the candidate will have the opportunity to work with faculty in the colleges of Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health, and Ophthalmology on topics among others related to aging, adult and pediatric well-being, and diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular, mental, and metabolic disorders (e.g., diabetes). In addition to the AI(X) Hub, the candidate would have the opportunity to engage with the Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Cancer Engineering Center, and the Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology all of which can be source of further collaborations and resources.
The successful candidate will be positioned to harness the department’s world-class expertise in artificial intelligence, anchored by two NSF-funded AI institutes and an NSF-funded Harnessing the Data Revolution (HDR) institute, alongside other major research centers with substantial funding. This rich ecosystem offers unparalleled opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and leadership in cutting-edge AI research. The candidate will have access to the Ohio Supercomputer Center’s advanced high-performance computing and data infrastructure—an invaluable asset for driving large-scale, data-intensive AI + Healthcare projects forward.
In summary, this is a highly interdisciplinary position that will be closely aligned with similar positions in the AI(X) Hub and other centers of research dedicated to biomedicine and health sciences.
