Job Summary/Basic Function
The Professional Counseling Program in the Womack Educational Leadership Department at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#120440) at the rank of assistant or associate professor to join a dynamic faculty committed to preparing qualified professional counselors. The start date for the position is August 1, 2026.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Teach graduate-level courses in the Professional Counseling Program, demonstrating excellence in instruction and curriculum development.
- Advise and mentor graduate students.
- Engage in departmental, college, and university service, including committee work and program initiatives.
- Attend and actively participate in weekly program meetings and other required gatherings.
- Actively participate in professional organizations relevant to the counseling field.
- Demonstrate and model trauma-informed practices in classroom instruction.
- Supervise practicum and internship experiences for counseling students as assigned.
- Pursue a program of scholarly activity, including research and publication, in areas aligned with professional counseling.
- Contribute to program accreditation activities and continuous improvement efforts.
- Maintain current knowledge of best practices in counseling, including attending professional development opportunities.
- Support program recruitment efforts through outreach and participation in recruitment events.
- Foster a respectful and supportive learning environment for students.
Required Education
A terminal degree in counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program is required by the appointment date.
Other Desirables
Applicants with the following will receive special consideration:
- eligibility for or experience with Tennessee school counselor licensure/certification.
- experience providing clinical supervision to counseling students, including familiarity with CACREP supervision requirements.
- experience providing counseling services in a school setting.
- evidence of successful teaching in counselor education at the graduate level.
- demonstrated potential for a record of research, scholarship, and publication in counselor education or related areas.
- experience with program coordination, curriculum development, or accreditation (particularly CACREP).
- active involvement in counseling professional organizations.
