Job Description SummaryThe Department of Public Health Sciences at The Medical University of South Carolina is looking to add a lab specialist II to assist with the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) research program. The candidate will provide technical and professional research services in the Department of Public Health Sciences and work closely with the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Pediatrics at MUSC. The applicant will be responsible for helping with many aspects of the study, including biologic sample collection, processing, and shipping, inventory and maintenance of lab supplies, assuring regulatory compliance, and assisting with any lab-related tasks that may arise. We are particularly interested in candidates who are interested in biologic sample collection and processing. The candidate must be flexible, as well as demonstrate strong organizational and interpersonal skills. The candidate must be able to work flexible hours such as evenings and some weekends.

Job Description:
The Department of Public Health Sciences at The Medical University of South Carolina is looking to add a lab specialist II to assist with the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) research program. Job Responsibilities:
30% - Collects, processes, prepares, and ships biologic research specimens. Provides guidance on system improvements related to specimen handling and develops standard operating procedures.
30% - Maintains inventory of research specimens, lab equipment, and supplies. Updates lab supplies as needed and performs routine maintenance on equipment.
20% - Collects data through study visits and follow-ups.
10% - Abstraction of medical records and maintenance of medical record release forms.
5% - Ensure adherence to federal regulations, IRB standards, and protocol requirements.
5% - Responsible for problem solving issues that arise during study procedures and participating in troubleshooting and development of alternative approaches with the study team. Perform additional functions incidental to research activities.

Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and two years journey-level technical experience in a related laboratory setting. A bachlor's degree in a related scientific discipline may be substituted for the required work experience.
