Description
The University Bursar directs leadership staff who provide supervision to bursar teams.Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Establishes long-term business plans and long-term strategic objectives.
- Responsible for escalated operational issues, including human resources, and/or people management situations.
- Determines overall budget for bursar teams.
- Develops business relationships across the university and externally.
- Drives innovation and excellence within the bursar area.
- Serves as a key strategic member of the Treasury Leadership Team.
- Manages the day-to-day, general, and long-term bursar functions for the Bloomington campus and shared services for all campuses, including the areas of student and employee billing, payments, disbursements, accounts payable, payment plans, and revenue distribution.
- Develops and reviews revenue and expense projections and makes operational adjustments to maximize efficiency.
- Develops and implements operational and strategic changes for campus; may act as a resource for Associate Bursars and Campus Bursars and provide guidance on day-to-day matters and especially complex issues.
- Manages staff, makes hiring decisions, provides coaching, training, and mentoring, manages performance, and determines staffing needs.
- Oversees and monitors bill payments against deadlines and local, state, and federal regulations.
- Responsible for accuracy, timelines, and the general integrity of the bursar function.
- Provides strategic vision for campus operations and shared services and establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives to achieve that vision; contributes to discussions with Associate and Campus Bursars regarding strategic vision for all campuses.
- Reviews feedback regarding system-wide bursar operations and oversees the selection and implementation of new systems.
- Develops and presents strategic recommendations to top-level university managers.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or related field
- Master's degree in account, business, or related field
Required
- 5 years in a relevant field
- 3 years of management experience in a relevant field

- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Work Location
Bloomington, Indiana
This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change based on university policy and the department's business needs.
Advertised Salary
$145,000 - $155,000 annually, based on experience.
