Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) is a Johns Hopkins University's Krieger School of Arts and Sciences division. As part of the nation's first research university, AAP offers rigorous and high-quality master's degrees at the Hopkins Bloomberg Center in Washington, DC, at the Homewood campus in Baltimore, Maryland, and online. AAP distinguishes itself through its intensive instructional assistance, selective admissions, over 60 dedicated full-time faculty. Position Description
The MS in Financial Economics program at Johns Hopkins University is seeking applications to establish a pool of qualified adjunct instructors for future teaching opportunities. While appointments are based on program needs, we anticipate hiring additional adjunct faculty in upcoming semesters.
We are particularly interested in instructors qualified to teach one or more of the following courses:
- Financial Economics
- Financial Econometrics
- Financial Intermediation and Financial Markets
- Economics of Investments and Financial Management
- Behavioral Economics and Finance
- Economics of Derivatives
- Other graduate-level finance and economics courses aligned with the program curriculum
The ideal candidate has a passion for graduate education and its power to transform the careers of working professionals, international students, and nontraditional learners. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated record of effective graduate (in-person and/or online) teaching and a commitment to creating an engaging and inclusive learning environment.
As the finance profession continues to evolve with advances in artificial intelligence and data analytics, we are especially interested in instructors who can thoughtfully incorporate AI tools and AI-related skills into their teaching where appropriate. Examples include using AI to support financial analysis, data visualization, programming, forecasting, risk analysis, investment research, and decision-making, while also helping students understand the opportunities and limitations of these technologies.
The expected salary range for this position is: $8,755 - $9,270 per course.
The referenced salary range is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will be based on factors including, but not limited to, the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate - e.g., years in rank, training, field, discipline, other work experience, and other similar factors; geographic location; internal equity; external market conditions; and other factors as reasonably determined by the University.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Economics, Finance, or a closely related field.
- At least one year of graduate-level teaching experience (in-person, online, or hybrid).
- At least one year of relevant professional experience in economics, finance, banking, investments, risk management, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Economics, Finance, or a closely related field.
- Several years of graduate-level teaching experience.
- Significant industry experience in finance or economics.
- Experience integrating AI tools, data analytics, programming, or other emerging technologies into finance or economics instruction.
- Experience designing applied learning activities that connect theory with current industry practice.

Salary Range
The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.

Vaccine Requirements
Johns Hopkins University strongly encourages, but no longer requires, at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. This change does not apply to the School of Medicine (SOM). SOM hires must be fully vaccinated with an FDA COVID-19 vaccination and provide proof of vaccination status. We still require all faculty, staff, and students to receive the seasonal flu vaccine.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those candidates who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
