Job Description:
The Westchester Educational Opportunity Center (WEOC), a division of Westchester Community College, is seeking experienced, energetic, innovative, results oriented professionals to join its team. Located in Yonkers, NY, this non-traditional adult education institution provides tuition-free academic and vocational training to eligible underserved adults seeking to develop basic academic and vocational skills, competencies, and credentials needed for enrollment in college and/or entry into the workforce.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Seeking energetic and engaging Adjunct Faculty to teach High School Equivalency courses. The incumbent will provide classroom instruction to students who seek a high school diploma, preparing the student to take and pass the High School Equivalency Exam. High School Equivalency courses include Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Test Prep. Successful candidates must demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of a diverse population and have the ability to work effectively with students who have barriers to employment. Classes may be offered days or evenings.
Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree and one year of practical experience teaching content areas and HSE/GED Preparation Courses. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication and presentation skills are required; the ability to establish a rapport with students and maintain an environment that supports learning and promotes student retention, and experience using an LMS are also required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience teaching adult learners and at-risk populations strongly preferred; highly organized and detail oriented.
Additional Information:
HOURLY RATE OF PAY: $93.84 per hour. No benefits. This position is fully grant funded.
