Job Purpose:
The Department of School Psychology within Gonzaga University's School of Education is seeking a part-time instructor to teach a course in the Cognitive Bases of Behavior (3 credits) for its Psy.D. program in School Psychology during the Fall 2026 semester.
This course exposes students to both classic and recent empirical research in various areas of cognition and discuss the underlying theories that account for those empirical findings. The areas of cognition that are discussed include perception, attention, mental imagery, memory, problem solving, reasoning and decision making, and language.

Essential Functions:
- Develop and/or update a class syllabus.
- Order the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
- Prepare lecturers, projects, or other student assignments.
- Maintain regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week.
- Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class.
- Meet all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet with your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule to class or obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair or their designated contact of your absence and your plan to cover the class.
- Work with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes.
- Submit completed final grades according to University regulations.
- Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
- Provide departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
- Complete all other course-related duties as outlined by the department's policies for part-time instructors.
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctoral degree (e.g. Ph.D., Psy.D.) in Psychology or a related field
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching in higher education
Experience and practical or research expertise in the area of Cognitive Psychology
Educational Requirement:
Master's Degree
