Suffolk County Community College is the largest community college in the State University of New York (SUNY) system, enrolling more than 26,000 students at its three campuses in Selden, Brentwood, and Riverhead, as well as its Culinary Arts Center in Riverhead. Established in 1959, the college offers a wide array of transfer-oriented associate degrees in the liberal arts and sciences; business; communications and the arts; computing and cybersecurity; health sciences; and many other areas. Career-facing degrees and certificates are offered in allied health professions, automotive technology, culinary and baking, manufacturing, and many other areas. The college provides high school concurrent enrollment opportunities to thousands of students each year through Suffolk’s Beacon program and on-campus early college classes. Designated by the U.S. Department of Education as a Hispanic Serving Institution, Suffolk enrolls thousands of students in English Language Learning courses, and also serves more veterans and military-connected students than any other college in the SUNY system.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Student Affairs, this position is primarily responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the campus Enrollment/Admissions Office including the Concierge Service area within the Student Success Center. This position is responsible for the implementation of all admissions policies, programs and services, hiring and supervising all full- and part-time Admissions, Financial Aid and Concierge personnel, and participating in the development and execution of the campus strategic plan for enrollment services. In addition, the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs is responsible for executing all recruitment initiatives for prospective applicants. The Assistant Dean is a member of the campus Student Affairs leadership team and the college-wide Enrollment Management team, serving as the primary liaison with academic faculty and K-12 partners. In addition, the candidate should demonstrate experience in developing workforce networks and tracking industry trends for future growth opportunities within the community college sector.
This is a Guild (Unit 4) position, and, as such, the salary and benefits for this position are determined according to the salary and benefits plan for the Guild of Administrative Officers.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage the day-to-day operation of the campus Enrollment/Admissions, Financial Aid Offices, and Concierge Services, including employee supervision, training and adherence to all admissions policies, standards and services; strategic enrollment planning; managing the overload budget, hiring and supervising all admissions personnel; outreach initiatives.
2. Coordinate all admissions/enrollment services and programs including counseling of prospective, new, and transfer students and work to inform and ensure timely registration and payment.
3. Coordinate campus recruitment and enrollment management efforts including all off-campus and on-campus programs related to admissions/enrollment initiatives; review and screen applications; and provide leadership for the development of retention strategies and initiatives.
4. Maintain relationships with campus faculty, the high school guidance community and other appropriate agencies, industry partners, and organizations.
5. Experience with computer-based technology systems that aid communication relay including SLATE, BANNER, and social media platforms.
6. Coordinate outreach efforts to increase college visibility to high school students, returning adults, and the community in general.
7. Work with the College Dean of Enrollment Management in the development and implementation of college-wide recruitment guidelines, policies, procedures, publications, and communication plans.
8. Participate in internal and external training sessions. Develop and facilitate training and staff meetings for professional and support staff within the office and division.
9. Collect and compile campus enrollment data for campus and college-wide reports.
10. Represent Admissions at appropriate committee meetings.
11. Participate and inform the placement process for all new and re-activated students.
12. Coordinate all events relative to program enrollment for the Eastern Campus.
13. Facilitate and support the Eastern Campus Early College Program.
14. Supervise staff and coverage at the Concierge Desk in the Student Success Center.
15. Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Student Affairs.
Requirements
Minimum
Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, Enrollment Management Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or related field.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Higher Education.
Preferred
Experience with recruitment and enrollment at a community college.
