Description
The UWA Department of Physical and Life Sciences in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Biology.
Effective Date: January 1, 2027
Responsibilities:
- Teach introductory biology, genetics, cell biology, and other undergraduate and graduate courses as needed based on departmental needs and applicants' expertise.
- Teach online courses based on departmental needs and applicants' expertise.
- Direct undergraduate and graduate research.
- Serve on departmental and university committees.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chairperson and Dean.
- Fulfill other duties expected of a faculty member, such as student advising, departmental recruitment and retention activities, public services, etc.
Qualifications
Required:
- Ph.D. in Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Genetics, or a related field (ABD candidates may be considered).
- Commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses.
- Ability to direct undergraduate and graduate research.
- Potential and dedication to attract extramural funding.
- Ability to work effectively with administration, faculty, staff, and students from varied socioeconomic/ethnic backgrounds.
Desired:
- Postdoctoral experience in modern and emerging technologies.
- Recent research publications.
- Successful teaching in a small student-centered regional university setting.
- Successful experience in directing undergraduate and graduate research.
- Successful experience in obtaining extramural funding.
- Demonstrated ability to secure external funding through grant writing.
- Successful experience in advising students.
- Experience with online courses.
- A commitment to participate in recruiting students our programs.
