Title: Costume Shop Manager/DraperVP Area: College of Arts and Sciences
Department: Theatre and Dance
Work Schedule: Irregular/on call

Hours per week: varies weekly, average 10-20 depending on show schedule

Job Purpose:
Supervise and carry out all aspects of costume shop for the Theatre & Dance Department. The Costume Shop Manager will work closely with students in work study positions and informal mentorship.
This position will work a maximum of 480 hours for the year, with heavy production weeks balanced out by fewer hours in non-production weeks.
Essential Functions:
- 40% - Shop Manager
- Work with faculty, student, and/or guest Costume Designers to realize designs for all supported shows
- Schedule and supervise work study students
- Provide mentorship to student Costume Designer(s) in form of designer/technician relationship
- Support Student Costume Designer(s) in collaboration with faculty director
- Supervise, instruct, and ensure a safe working environment; maintaining shop supplies, equipment, and storage areas.
- 35% - Show Preparation and Stewardship
- Acquire and organize all necessary paperwork, including measurements, spending records, piece lists, dressing lists, etc., in collaboration with the Costume Designer
- Prepare all costumes to be ready for first dress rehearsal in collaboration with Costume Designer for all supported shows
- Recruit and train wardrobe crew and coordinate their duties during tech week and the run of all supported shows
- Attend dress rehearsals and collaborate with Costume Designer on notes throughout tech week for all supported shows
- Organize and supervise strike of show following closing, including dry cleaning, return of rentals, etc., for all supported shows
- 15% - Draper
- Coordinate and lead all alterations, builds, and crafts
- Drape or otherwise pattern and cut and construct all builds
- 10% - Additional duties, training, tasks as needed.
Educational Requirement:
Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience
Years of Related Experience Requirement:
1 year
In lieu of the educational qualifications, candidates may qualify with equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education.
Certifications and/or Licensures:
Valid Drivers' License
Skills & Abilities:
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word
Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Demonstrated time management, punctuality, and priority setting skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Proven driving ability with good driving record
Proficient in costume draping, patterning, cutting, and stitching
Ability to work flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated achievement in professional costume shop management and draping
Fabric Manipulation in the form of dying and or painting
Costume crafting experience

In-Office Presence - Ability to work on-site in typical office setting and participate in in-person meetings with colleagues: 5 days/week

The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to offer for this position: $20.77 - $22.22 per hour
Pay Range:
Minimum Salary (Non-Exempt): 20.77
Midpoint Salary (Non-Exempt): 25.96
Maximum Salary (Non-Exempt): 31.15
