LSC consists of eight colleges, seven centers, eight Workforce Centers of Excellence and Lone Star Corporate College.
LSC-Houston North Fairbanks is located at Highway 290 and West Little York Road, near the Sam Houston Tollway. The Fairbanks location provides a variety of services to students including advising, registration, counseling, and tutoring. Academic programs include basic transfer courses, developmental studies, and English for Speakers of Other Languages.

Job Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The Environmental Health and Life Safety (EHLS) Officer is responsible for inspecting, evaluating, and monitoring equipment, processes, and campus environments to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to Lone Star College. This position will work closely with campus faculty, staff, and administration to implement LSC's environmental health and life safety programs to ensure compliance with applicable policies, codes, and regulations. In collaboration with the other members of the EHLS department and College-wide departments, the EHLS Officer will work to create and enhance a robust safety culture by providing technical support, consultation, awareness, and training to reduce risk and prevent hazards and injury to the LSC community.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Conduct and document visual inspections of learning and work environments for potential fire hazards
- Conduct and document routine visual inspections on environmental health, fire and life safety systems, equipment, and devices
- Facilitates and secures documentation from contractors of required fire safety code inspections in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements
- Plan and conduct fire drills. Document drill results and required follow-up actions, reporting all findings to appropriate personnel
- Support the Office of Emergency Management and LSC Police Department in facilitation and documentation of other required drills and exercises
- Records and maintains testing results, work order documentation, and repairs to include preventive and corrective maintenance on fire protection equipment systems
- Monitor and document the completion of corrective action to address identified safety deficiencies
- Assists the EHLS Managers and Director to develop and deliver environmental health and life safety educational awareness and training programs
- Participate in conducting and documenting safety audits to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and mitigate potential risks
- Oversee the placement and setup of environmental health and life safety signage and equipment
- Escort contractors and Fire Marshal representatives through LSC buildings in order to maintain and/or inspect equipment
- Maintain accurate detailed records and ensure timely communication of all fire system related matters to EHLS management
- Assist the EHLS Managers and Director with collecting and documenting information regarding incidents to identify and support in resolving any issue that may relate to unsafe environmental conditions and/or practices
- Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion, such as frequent climbing of tall ladders, lifting heavy objects over fifty pounds, crouching, or crawling in restricted areas, long periods of standing, and considerable amounts of walking.
WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
- Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, phone, and other general office equipment
- Interface with internal and external contacts to fulfill essential job functions
- May be assigned to any or various LSC campuses
- May work around chemical fumes, hazardous substances, electrical and mechanical hazards, noise, allergens, and dust
- May be required to wear personal protective equipment and an LSC shirt (furnished)
- May be required to work occasional evenings and weekends
- Able to provide occasional on-call support on a rotational basis
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED and at least 3 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree in a technical field
- At least 4 years of experience with full life cycle installation, repair, maintenance, and operations of various fire, life, and safety devices
- American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, AED Certified
- Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T) Certified
- Industry and safety certifications such as the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) or Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
Salary
Hiring salary range is $48,152 to $55,375.
Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
