Position OverviewThe Food Service Worker plays a vital role in nourishing children and supporting a safe, healthy learning environment. This position is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals, maintaining kitchen cleanliness and safety, adhering to all state and federal guidelines, and collaborating with staff to meet dietary needs.
Job Description
Food Preparation - 45%
- Prepare appealing, nutritious meals and snacks for children in accordance with State of Kansas and CACFP regulations.
- Serve meals/snacks on schedule and adjust menus for special dietary needs.
- Maintain food quality, safety, and sanitation standards for all kitchen users.
- Operate dishwasher and ensure minimal dirty dish accumulation.
- Follow state dishwashing regulations to maintain sanitary conditions.
- Keep kitchen organized, clean, and safe at all times.
- Lock drawers per licensing regulations; arrange repairs for malfunctioning equipment.
- Assist with minor repairs and semester-end cleaning tasks.
- Develop menus that meet CACFP guidelines, nutritional standards, and budget requirements.
- Review menus with supervisors and plan substitutions as needed.
- Maintain accurate CACFP and state-required records; assist with annual audits and reviews.
- Wash, dry, and promptly return clean laundry to classrooms.
- Monitor and schedule laundry facilities for teacher use.
- Create shopping lists, purchase groceries, and manage within budget constraints.
- Maintain inventory of food and kitchen supplies.
Position Requirements
- Ability to carry supplies up to 30 lbs., reach overhead, stand, walk, bend, and push/pull food carts (with or without accommodation).
- Meet all KDHE requirements, including TB test, health assessment, and fingerprint background check.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in food service and/or commercial food preparation, as evidenced by application materials.
