Description
The Johns Hopkins Center for Inherited Heart Disease (CIHD) is a clinical program that evaluates, diagnoses, and manages individuals and families with disorders including Long QT Syndrome, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and other familial forms of cardiomyopathy and arrhythmia. We are seeking a Genetic Counselor who will work on familial forms of structural and arrhythmic heart disease.Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide independent, direct genetic counseling for a range of inherited heart diseases.
- Participate in program development and management of genetic counseling services within the Division of Cardiology for adult and pediatric patients.
- Review medical records to determine possible genetic testing options.
- Summarize and discuss cases referred to CIHD with program faculty.
- Facilitate post-mortem sample collection and coordination of DNA banking.
- Coordinate clinical genetic testing including informed consent, lab requisition forms, and letters of medical necessity;
- Communicate test results to physicians and patients, often as a follow-up to a visit, and document clinical information in the electronic medical record.
- Respond to inquiries related to genetic testing/counseling services from health care professionals, patients, and the public.
- Participate in cardiology and genetic educational activities.
- Provide guidance to genetic counseling students, nurses, residents, and fellows.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling from a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling
- Maryland licensure and ABGC certification as a genetic counselor or Maryland licensure as a supervised genetic counselor with certification within one year of employment.
- Must maintain current certification and licensure during duration of employment.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- ABGC board certified
- Two years of genetic counseling experience.
- Previous experience with cardiac disease.

Starting Salary Range: $64,600 - $113,300 Annually ($90,000 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
