Description
General Summary:The Institute for Asian American Studies (IAAS) at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a 10-month Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2026.
IAAS conducts interdisciplinary research on local and national Asian American issues. The Institute also serves as a vital resource for policymakers, educators, service providers, foundations, media, and community organizations, while supporting the academic success of Asian American students and advancing Asian American Studies on campus.
The Fellow will contribute to ongoing research initiatives at IAAS under the supervision of the Director and Senior Research Associate. In addition to collaborative project work, the Fellow will be given substantial time to advance their own research agenda.
This is a residential fellowship; however, limited remote work or fieldwork may be accommodated.
Examples of Duties:
- Conduct research under the supervision of the Director and the Assistant Director
- Analyze large scale datasets
- Develop written materials, including research papers, reports, and briefs, for diverse audiences such as academics, policymakers, practitioners, and the general public
- Collaborate with Asian American community organizations
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in a relevant field (conferred after May 1, 2021, or expected by August 1, 2026)
- Training in social science or humanities discipline (e.g. sociology, history, ethnic studies, education, political science, or related field)
- Command of a range of research methodologies, including quantitative and qualitative approaches
- Advanced knowledge of a statistical software package used to analyze data such as SPSS or STATA

This is a non-union exempt position.
UMass Boston expects to pay within an approximate range between $60,000 and $80,000 for this position.
The specific pay for this position will be determined by the University based on the consideration of all relevant factors when and if it decides to extend an offer of employment.
