Job DescriptionThe Tortelote Lab at Tulane University School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, is seeking an outstanding candidate for a post-doctoral position. A postdoctoral position is available in a dynamic research laboratory at Tulane University investigating the molecular and metabolic mechanisms that regulate kidney development.
Our laboratory studies how cellular metabolism regulates the molecular and epigenetic mechanisms that shape kidney development, with a particular focus on nephron progenitor (stem cell) fate decisions and nephron formation. We combine mouse genetics, single-cell and multi-omics profiling, and advanced cellular and imaging approaches to investigate how metabolic pathways and inter-organelle communication influence progenitor cell maintenance, differentiation, and nephrogenesis. A major goal of our work is to understand how early-life insults, such as nutritional imbalances, reprogram kidney development and predispose individuals to kidney disease across multiple generations. Notably, our lab has developed metabolic intervention strategies aimed at restoring normal developmental trajectories.
The postdoc scientist will focus on how metabolic signaling and inter-organelle communication regulate nephron progenitor cell fate and whether metabolic interventions can restore normal kidney development following early-life nutritional stress.
The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing projects examining molecular, metabolic, and epigenetic pathways that regulate stem cell fate and developmental processes using mouse models and integrative molecular approaches.
Research Environment:
Tulane University offers a highly collaborative research environment with access to state-of-the-art genomics, metabolomics, and imaging core facilities that support innovative biomedical research. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop independent research directions, participate in grant and fellowship applications, and receive mentorship aimed at supporting the transition to an independent research career.
Appointment:
The appointment is reviewed annually and renewable for up to three years, contingent upon research performance and funding availability.

- Design and conduct independent research projects under the guidance of the Principal Investigator
- Analyze and interpret experimental data
- Contribute to manuscript preparation and presentation of research findings
- Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary research environment
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a related field.
Candidates should demonstrate:
- A strong publication record and evidence of research productivity
- The ability to design, execute, and interpret independent experiments
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
Preferred Technical Skills
- Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
- Mammalian cell and tissue culture
- Mouse handling and colony management
- Cre/loxP genetic approaches for tissue-specific gene manipulation
Experience with molecular biology and biochemistry techniques (qPCR, genotyping, western blotting, immunostaining, fluorescence or confocal imaging) and experience with cellular metabolism analysis, single-cell genomics, or multi-omics approaches are a plus.
