Louisiana Tech University seeks applicants for a Professional-in-Residence (PIR) faculty position in the Chemical Engineering program. This is a 10-month, non-tenure track position with a desired start time of September 1, 2026. Appointments are for one year and are renewed annually upon satisfactory performance. Applicants must have experience working in a chemical plant, refinery, or other industrial operation within the Chemical Engineering field. Five years of experience or more and 18 semester credit hours of graduate study in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline are strongly preferred.
The successful candidate will manage a two-story, 3,400-square foot teaching lab that houses process control systems, distillation columns, heat exchangers, fluid flow and pumping equipment, evaporation, absorption, and drying systems, reactors, and lab-scale paper production line. This YouTube video features the teaching lab and the PIR: Welcome to the Lab: Chemical Engineering at Louisiana Tech. Traditionally, the PIR teaches one class per 11-week academic quarter for three quarters per year. These classes are Junior Laboratory, Senior Laboratory, and Process Safety in the Chemical Industry.
Job duties include
Teach and set up undergraduate Chemical Laboratory Safety class and Chemical Engineering Junior and Senior Laboratories
Provide safety training for students in teaching laboratories and create a safe environment
Initiate requisitions for supplies
Arrange for equipment maintenance and repair
Train teaching assistants when they are required
Participate in biweekly faculty meetings during the school year.
Serve as the Chair of the Safety Committee for the College of Engineering and Science which oversees our annual hazardous chemical inventory
Coordinate annual property inventory for the Chemical Engineering program
Other duties as assigned
