Description
We are seeking a Teaching Assistant who will support the success of the class and students by providing students with additional academic support in a professional manner. The TA assists students in understanding content by using various teaching/tutoring strategies. A teaching Assistant must be available to provide extra assistance to individual students as needed.Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- The teaching assistant will assist in grading homework, quizzes, and exams of the online section of course.
- The teaching assistant will also monitor online discussion boards, perform online course communication with students, and assist during synchronous discussions.
- The selected individual will be responsible for preparing the course Blackboard site before the start of the course.
- The Blackboard site will include assignment descriptions and deadlines, grade book calculations, group and class discussion forums, student resources, practice exams, and mid-term course evaluations.
- The position will require the student to outline a teaching module for future online teaching assistants. This module must include documents for preparing new teaching assistants, troubleshooting tips, and information on fostering a productive working relationship with a professor.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a related field strongly preferred.
- Prior teaching experience in the relevant course content area.
- Previous experience supporting instruction in an academic setting (e.g., tutoring, teaching assistant, or classroom support role).
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students in a professional academic environment.
- Familiarity with course-related subject matter and a strong commitment to supporting student learning.
