Job DescriptionThe Department of Anthropology at Tulane University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2026, with on-campus duties beginning in August 2026, renewable for up to one year. We seek a biological anthropologist whose work engages with living human populations through applied and/or community-based research approaches. Areas of specialization may include biocultural approaches to health and disease, human adaptations, foodways and nutrition, growth and development, or aging and senescence. Regional focus is open. The successful candidate will complement our department's strengths and actively contribute to our interdisciplinary research and teaching mission. We seek scholars who will reinforce our thematic concentration in the body, health, and medicine while also engaging with broader departmental topics. The salary for this position is $55,000.

Responsibilities
Courses will include Introduction to Biological Anthropology but could also include Adaptation and Human Variability, Anthropology of Sex and Reproduction, and specialized courses related to the candidate's area of specialization. The teaching load is 3:3. Our department values engaged teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate (including PhD) levels, and the successful candidate will be expected to engage and mentor students across all levels.
Qualifications
Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent degree in anthropology at the time employment begins. Successful candidates are expected to have demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
